The actress who got the controversial role in Darna project is none other than the Star Magic Artist Jane de Leon. It was confirmed by the ABS-CBN films with the statement they released this day.
The 20-year-old Kapamilya young actress will follow the footsteps of Rosa del Rosario, Liza Moreno, Eva Montes, Gina Pareño, Vilma Santos, Lorna Tolentino, Rio Locsin, Sharon Cuneta, Nanette Medved, Anjanette Abayari, Regine Velasquez, Angel Locsin, and Marian Rivera who portrayed as Darna in films and television series.
Her real name is Jane Florence Benitez de Leon that came from her grandmother whose name is Jane. Aside from it, her family was also thinking to name her with Hyacinth, Amapola, and Jade. On the other hand, her second name actually came from her aunt's name Flor and her dad, Ruel Florencio. The newcomer in the industry also revealed that she is a certified animal lover especially cats.
She hails from Laguna and as a child, she never loves dolls as she prefers to play the toys that young boys want. She may look like a newbie in the industry but she had already portrayed in some movies and television series like Walwal, The Debutante, in some of the episodes of Ipaglaban Mo, La Luna Sangre and her most recent teleserye Halik, where she portrayed as Maggie Bartolome, the sister of Lino Bartolome that was played by actor Jerico Rosales. She used to be part of the girl group Girltrends of the noontime show “It's Showtime”.
Darna is a fictional Filipino comics superhero created by writer Mars Ravelo and artist Nestor Redondo. Liza Soberano is the first to get the role in the most awaited Darna film but unfortunately, she suffered from a finger injury and until now she is still undergoing operations, therapy, and treatment for her injured finger. A lot of her fans and supporters were saddened about her emotional withdrawal from the project but she believes that it will be the best for everyone since she really wanted to give her best in portraying the Filipino superheroine but it was not really for her.
